IDI-Japan helped MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan) with the following online meeting. |
5th UN Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters
|
The 5th United Nations Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters was held virtually on June 25th, 2021
under the title of "Building Back Better towards More Resilient and Sustainable Post COVID-19 World."
The session was the highest-level event globally around the issue where representatives of the member states and diverse stakeholders
shared the recognition and understanding on water and disasters for achieving sustainable development.
Minister Akaba of MLIT gave a speech in a video message. He mentioned Japan is tackling the urgent issue of climate change impacts on flood disasters
by reviewing flood control plans throughout river basins with involvement of all the stakeholders and making preventive measures as well as recovery plans
for Build Back Better for more resilient communities. He stated that Japan would like to share knowledge that is indispensable for achieving SDGs with the international society.
