2. Training Courses, Workshops and Seminars

2-1 JICA training course: Water Related Disaster Management in Asian Region in May 2013 supported by IDI
|
JICA Tsukuba Training course "Water Related Disaster Management (Preparedness, Mitigation and Reconstruction) in Asian Region"
was held from May 7th to 31st 2013 and IDI supported to conduct this course.
12 participants from 6 Asian countries (Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Myanmar) took part in this course to study Japanese countermeasures against water related disasters.
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management (NILIM)
and Public Works Research Institute (PWRI) gave lectures and practices on a wide range of topics from policymaking to community disaster prevention.
The participants visited 8 sites to understand how to implement policies and plans.

2-2 South Africa - Japan 3rd Evaluation Workshop on Water Resource Management was held
|
The workshop was held on September 18th and 19th 2013 in Pretoria, South Africa hosted by the Department of Water Affairs, South Africa(DWA) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan(MLIT). The main topics of the presentations in the workshop were Flash Flood Management, Acid Mine Drainage management, Capacity Building in the Field of Water Management, Water-related PPP Projects, etc. On the next day of the workshop, some of the participants, most of them were dam engineers, visited the Vaal Dam, located 70km south of Johannesburg and made a discussion with dam administrator about its management.
Based on the Joint Resolution adopted between the DWA and the MLIT in September 2011, both countries have exchanged a number of technical information in the field of water-related disaster management, waste-water treatment and water resources management. Furthermore, the DWA and the MLIT adopted new Joint Resolution at this workshop to emphasize their future collaborative relationships.

2-3 JICA training course "Adaptation to Climate Change" in September 2013 supported by IDI
|
JICA Tsukuba training course "Adaptation to Climate Change" supported by IDI was conducted from September 29th to October 25th 2013.
10 trainees from 7 countries (Samoa, Bolivia, Colombia, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Mauritania and Indonesia) has participated in the training course.
The training course provided lectures about Climate Model, Forecast of Climate Change, Impact Assessment of Climate Change and Adaptation in Disaster Prevention Sector.
Trainees also learned from field trips including Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel, River Improvement Project in Maruyama River whose lower channel is registered as Ramsal wetlands of International Importance, Tottori Center for Climate Change Actions (Tottori University), etc.

2-4 1st Myanmar-Japan Disaster Management Collaboration Dialogue Workshop was held
|
The 1st Japan-Myanmar Disaster Management Collaboration Dialogue Workshop was held in the presence of Three Union Ministers (Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Minister of Transport, Minister of Agriculture and
Irrigation) in Nay Pyi Daw, Myanmar on February 17th and 18th 2014.
The persons in charge, from 5 disaster prevention organizations form Myanmar side and 17 from Japan side, gave presentations, and many participants listened to the presentations of the Japanese companies, enthusiastic discussion was made.
