Flood and Landslide in Southern Sulawesi Island, Indonesia

DAMAGE
Torrential rains hit the southern Sulawesi Island for three days started from June 18. On June 20, the area was inundated by 1-2m, and landslide wrecked havoc in Sinjai district.

NUMBER OF DEAD AND MISSING PERSONS
- Dead: 190
- Missing: more than 140

CAUSE
Locals point out illegal logging as a major cause of the disaster.

GFAS RAINFALL INFORMATION
According to GFAS, daily precipitation exceeding 5-year return period was observed on June 20 in the southern Sulawesi Island (Fig.1).
